According to Owensboro Police Department reports, Robert A. Brice, 37, of the 500 block of East 26th Street, was charged with first-degree sexual abuse and second-degree burglary in the incident.

Police reports say on May 24, 2009 Brice allegedly broke into the home of an 18 year-old Owensboro woman and performed a solo sexual act on her. The woman later told police she did not know Brice and had not invited him into her home.

According to the Daviess County Detention Center inmate log, Brice has been arrested 35 times since 1991.

According to police reports, the man – described as a white male with dark curly hair and wearing a “Jack Daniels” t-shirt, approached workers at Strehl’s Chevron Auto Repair on Carter road about 5:40 p.m. Wednesday. The report says the man told employees “there was going to be a bomb that goes off, killing the terrorist.”

The report says the employees described the man “appeared to be mentally unstable and also smelled like marijuana.” The employees also told police the man did not seem to have anything resembling a bomb, and they did not see him place anything in the area.

Officers conducted a search, but could not find anyone matching the man’s description.

Sheriff’s department reports said the woman received the message from a friend’s E-mail account. The message said the friend was in the United Kingdom and “something very terrible” happened to her. The E-mail went on to say the friend’s money had been stolen, she had no funds to pay her hotel bill or get back home, her cell phone didn’t work and she needed 1,200 British Pounds.

The woman e-mailed back, asking for more information. The response only said the message was not a hoax. However, the woman called her friend, who was not in the U.K. and had not sent the E-mail.

Investigators believe the friend’s E-mail account had been hacked and a scam artist was using the account to send messages.

According to sheriff’s department reports, investigators were called to the G.D. Ritzy’s restaurant at 4527 Kentucky 54 on May 27. The report says a manager reported a cash totalling $3,000 had been stolen while the restaurant was closed for the night.

Investigators determined the door to the room where the money was stored had been taken off its hinges and later replaced. A locking mechanism on an exterior door also showed signs of tampering.

According to Owensboro Police Department reports, a woman staying at the Sleep Inn in Bon Harbor Hills reported discovering a stranger in her room about 2:20 p.m. Monday. The report says the woman was taking a shower when she saw the man attempting to hide from her between the beds.

The woman called her boyfriend, who came to the room to help her. Reports say the woman and her boyfriend told officers the man was attempting to steal both cash and several pairs of the woman’s underwear.

Police charged Michael E. Aldridge, 24, of the 4100 block of Mayflower Drive, with second-degree burglary in the incident. Aldridge was being held Tuesday in the Daviess County Detention Center on $20,000 bond.

The vehicle, a 2002 or 2003 Buick Rendezvous, was captured on video, when the driver is believed to have stolen metal from a home at 4547 Lake Forest Drive.

A sheriff’s department press release says the tape captures a white male with dark hair – wearing a dark shirt and knee-length shorts – exiting the vehicle and going into the home’s garage.

The video then shows the man loading coiled aluminum into the vehicle on the passenger side.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 685-8444, or Crime Stoppers at 687-8484. Calls to Crime Stoppers are anonymous, and cash rewards are paid for information that lead to arrests.

According to an Owensboro Police Department press release, the men were invited into a home in the 900 block of Hall Street. While one of the men distracted the home owner, the other stole cash from the home.

The men are described as white males – one in a dress hat. They were driving a mid-to-full size passenger car, possibly tan or pewter in color.

Owensboro police reports said detectives from the department’s street crimes unit were driving on Breckenridge Street at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday when they noticed a driver drinking a can of beer.

The report says when the detectives searched the vehicle, they found what they believe to be methamphetamine and several items used to make the drug.

Dennis R. McKinney Jr., 31, of the 1900 block of Stonewall Court, Joseph I. McKinney, 28, also of the 1900 block of Stonewall Court, William E. Cameron, 34, of the 4600 block of Towne Square Court and  Shelly D. Daugherty, 36, of Maceo, were all charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Daugherty was also charged with driving while intoxicated and possession of an open alcohol beverage in a motor vehicle.

All four were lodged Thursday in the Daviess County Detention Center.

According to sheriff’s department reports, a deputy was called to Cambridge Drive Monday night on a vandalism report. The report says when the deputy arrived, he saw a street sign with the word “boogers” written on the back.

Deputies have no suspects – probably because the incident was reported at 8:40 p.m., so the vandals had already been tucked in for beddy-bye. Perhaps investigators will have more luck if they check back earlier in the day – perhaps between story time and nap time?

According to Owensboro Police Department reports, a man claiming to be an OPD officer contacted Charles Lawless III, asking Lawless the whereabouts of a certain person. Lawless told officers the caller said he needed the information because he was conducting an investigation.

The report says Lawless provided the information, but became suspicious and called OPD. Officers later tracked the call to Jeffery A. Leftwich, 25, of the 300 block of Third Street.

Reports say Leftwich admitted making the call, and said he was trying to locate a missing person, “Mr. Wink.” The report says “(Leftwich) does not know Wink’s first name or any other information.”

Police believe Leftwich was also trying to conduct his own investigation into possible drug activity. Leftwich was charged with impersonating a police officer which is a class D felony.
